About the role
The AI-Native Software Engineering Researcher position focuses on researching and applying AI to industry and government scale software engineering problems. The role involves conducting research, applying findings in both government and industry settings, and sharing insights with the broader research and software engineering community.
Responsibilities
- Assess the rapidly changing capabilities of AI models and coding agents
- Establish metrics to help organizations understand their use of AI in development
- Identify gaps in AI workflows that lead to poor outcomes
- Create novel agents or agentic workflows
- Adapt or develop practices and workflows to integrate software engineering disciplines
- Study the costs associated with AI and develop strategies for more efficient use
- Work with world-class software engineers, researchers, and data scientists on national and global scale problems
Requirements
- A PhD with at least five (5) years of relevant experience
- Subject to a background investigation and Department of War security clearance
- Willing to travel up to 25% of the time to locations outside of your home location
Qualifications
- Comprehensive knowledge of software engineering fundamentals
- Ability to keep up with and adapt to rapidly changing technical advances
- Track record of conducting research and applying scientific methods to solve difficult problems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to explain complex technical ideas to non-experts
- Demonstrated track record of publishing in top-tier peer-reviewed venues
- Strong collaboration skills for working with colleagues and sponsors
- Proficiency in writing funding proposals or pitching ideas for new research projects
- Willingness and ability to guide and mentor junior team members
