About the Role

The Senior Accountant – Corps performs full-scope accounting duties for the accounting operations of corps/360 service centers within the North and Central Illinois Division. This position assists with timely and accurate analysis and reporting, maintaining The Salvation Army’s high standards of productivity, service excellence, and adherence to policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Reconciliation & Analysis Activities:
    • Review, analyze, and reconcile balance sheet and income statement general ledger accounts, including timely identification and resolution of reconciling items.
    • Reconcile various intercompany income and liability accounts.
    • Prepare bank reconciliations on a monthly basis, including the timely identification and resolution of reconciling items.
    • Review cash flow needs or requirements ongoing, providing recommendations as required.
    • Review reconciliations of various general ledger accounts prepared by other General Fund accounting staff.
    • Support the annual budget process, including ensuring the accuracy of budgets entered in Acumatica.
  • Financial Services & Activities:
    • Post various journal entries in areas such as reconciliation corrections, payroll distributions, insurance and pension expense distributions, support service earnings, interest earnings, and standard charges and assessments.
    • Prepare monthly and annual financial reports.
    • Provide financial consultation to General Fund department managers and staff as required.
    • Ensure the timely completion of the monthly and year-end general ledger closings.
    • Complete all start-up activities required to open or begin a new fiscal year.
    • Review General Ledger activity on a regular basis to ensure proper account distributions, including transaction edit listings.
  • Other Duties:
    • Serve as a backup to other Senior Accountants.
    • Assist with internal audits by preparing requested responses, reconciliations, and work papers supported by adequate documentation.
    • Assist with researching or resolving questions from vendors or department directors as requested.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an accounting and finance professional.
  • Well-balanced background in non-profit general ledger, financial analysis, and account reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in web-based computerized accounting systems and Excel spreadsheets.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or comparable experience.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or faith-based organization is preferred.
  • Experience in a multi-entity organization is a plus.

Pay

$64,195 - $78,639 annually.

Schedule

Full-time, exempt.

Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with a low noise level.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment and a PC.
  • Some light physical work required.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating professionally with co-workers, supervisors, and external contacts.
