Responsibilities
- Direct the monthly close cycle for an assigned group of properties, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, allocations, and intercompany transactions.
- Review the work of three Staff Accountants, providing feedback, coaching, and oversight to maintain quality and timeliness.
- Produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for properties and related ownership entities.
- Evaluate operating results against budgets and prior periods, then communicate key drivers and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor general ledger activity to ensure transactions are recorded correctly across multiple entities and ownership structures.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and help maintain reliable internal accounting controls.
- Support treasury-related activities by handling bank reconciliations, monitoring cash positions, and tracking reserve balances.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to deliver complete and timely financial information.
- Assist with audit preparation, tax support, investor reporting, and initiatives designed to improve accounting processes and scalability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline.
- At least 5 years of accounting experience, with property accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of month-end close, accrual-based accounting, and general ledger management.
- Experience using property accounting or ERP platforms such as Yardi, Sage Intacct, or RealPage.
- Prior experience reviewing work or mentoring entry-level accountants in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills with close attention to accuracy and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance audiences.
Qualifications
- Experience in a property accounting role is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Knowledge of GAAP and IFRS principles.
