A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its growing finance team. This role partners closely with leadership and plays a key role in overseeing endowment accounting, financial reporting, and audit preparation. What You'll Be Doing
- Lead endowment accounting activities, including general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, and investment activity tracking
- Manage fund accounting and unitization reporting, ensuring accurate allocation and reconciliation of endowed funds
- Prepare financial reporting packages, including statements of activities, balance sheets, and supporting schedules
- Support development of annual budgets and ongoing forecasts, partnering with finance leadership
- Own month-end and year-end close processes related to investments, pledges, and restricted funds
- Prepare rollforward schedules for pledges, charitable gift instruments (e.g., annuities, trusts), and donor-restricted net assets
- Assist with grant reporting, including compliance and financial tracking
- Coordinate year-end audit activities, including preparation of supporting schedules, footnotes, and audit deliverables
- Prepare and support Form 990 and other regulatory filings in coordination with leadership
- Maintain debt and cash activity schedules, ensuring accuracy and reconciliation with external statements
- Develop and enhance internal controls and process improvements, including automation opportunities
- Generate reports and perform variance analysis using a cloud-based ERP system
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
- 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within nonprofit, foundation, or fund accounting environments
- Experience with investment accounting, endowments, or restricted funds highly preferred
- Familiarity with financial reporting standards for nonprofits and regulatory filings (Form 990)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls
- Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., Sage Intacct or similar)
- Advanced Excel skills and analytical mindset
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Pay
$45 - $50 per hour
