About the role
The Dixon Group is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our team in Chestertown, MD. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in general ledger accounting. A CPA is preferred but not required.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger by preparing and posting journal entries, including adjustments for accruals, prepaids, and fixed assets.
- Assist in the closing process by preparing necessary adjusting entries and reconciliations.
- Perform account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts, including cash, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and other key accounts.
- Aid in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP.
- Support audits by providing documentation and assisting with both internal and external audits, preparing supporting schedules, and answering inquiries from auditors.
- Manage the fixed asset accounting process, including tracking capital expenditures, recording depreciation, and performing asset disposals.
- Analyze variances in general ledger accounts and provide explanations for significant fluctuations, assisting in budget vs. actual reporting.
- Ensure compliance with internal control procedures, identifying areas for improvement and recommending corrective actions where necessary.
- Seek ways to improve efficiency in accounting processes and financial reporting.
- Aid in the preparation and filing of tax returns, regulatory reports, and compliance filings (e.g., sales tax, property tax, etc.).
- Contribute to special projects and analyses as required by management.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, formulas).
- Knowledge of GAAP and general accounting principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA is preferred but not required.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably with a focus on general ledger accounting.
Skills

Pay
$60-$90k per year
Schedule
8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
