Senior Accountant

About the Role

Under general direction, responsible for the more complex accounting activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts and for developing financial statements and reports. Provides training and guidance to less experienced accounting staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide full-scope accounting support to regional offices and/or corporate management.
• Participate and coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual closing cycles and financial statement preparation, including preparing financial reports for lenders, investors, and management.
• Prepare and perform analysis of advisory comments for discrepancies at various levels of consolidation on financial reports.
• Verify proper general ledger accounting through account analysis and reconciliation.
• Present analytical and trend analysis to management, identifying errors, balance sheet reconciliations, audit documentation, fixed asset management, and oversight.
• Assist in annual audits through collection of information on general ledger accounts.
• Provide functional advice and training to less-experienced accounting staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance and four (4) years of accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• CPA preferred.

Skills

• Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Knowledge of cost accounting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Ability to compose effective and efficient accounting reports.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency in the use of accounting software packages.

Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work is in an office setting and generally sedentary with physical effort associated with using a computer, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. May be required to occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects up to 25 pounds.
