Senior Accountant

Addison Group is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a temporary contract opportunity with an established organization in Tysons, VA. This position will provide hands-on accounting support during a period of systems implementation and organizational transition.

About the role

This temporary assignment is expected to last approximately three to four months, with the potential for extension. The Senior Accountant will focus heavily on general ledger accounting, revenue, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day general ledger accounting activities.
• Prepare, review, and post journal entries.
• Perform detailed balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations.
• Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and reconciling items.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
• Assist with revenue accounting, analysis, and related reconciliations.
• Prepare and analyze accruals and supporting schedules.
• Manage prepaid expense accounting and monthly amortization activity.
• Maintain fixed asset accounting records, including additions, disposals, depreciation, and reconciliations.
• Review general ledger activity for accuracy and appropriate classification.
• Prepare supporting schedules and financial analyses for accounting leadership.
• Utilize Microsoft Excel extensively for reconciliations, reporting, analysis, and accounting schedules.
• Assist with accounting system implementation and transition activities.
• Document existing accounting processes, procedures, and workflows.
• Support the transition of manual accounting processes into improved or automated systems.
• Identify process gaps, accounting discrepancies, and opportunities for increased efficiency.
• Provide accounting support to the Controller, Accounting Manager, and broader accounting team.
• Assist with special projects and ad hoc accounting analysis as needed.
• Maintain accurate supporting documentation and ensure compliance with established accounting policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Several years of progressive general ledger or corporate accounting experience.
• Previous Senior Accountant-level experience strongly preferred.
• Strong hands-on experience with month-end close.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to independently research and resolve accounting issues in a detailed, deadline-driven environment.

Schedule

• Hybrid, four days per week on-site in Tysons, VA.
• Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.

Pay

$40.00–$50.00 per hour.
