SUMMARY
The Senior Academic Tutor provides tutoring in various disciplines based on teaching experience and subject area expertise, including writing, math, science, and other academic areas as needed. This role is part of the Learning Commons, working primarily in either the Writing Center or Math & Science Center.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
- Provide walk-in tutoring and support for students across various subject areas.
- Assess the needs of students on a walk-in basis and collaborate with team members to ensure comprehensive service.
- Maintain knowledge of college resources for appropriate student referrals for additional support.
- Provide one-on-one assistance to students requiring more intensive tutoring.
- Absorb and provide support via video conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
- Contribute to programming efforts for special events and workshops.
- Develop, maintain, and contribute to supplementary materials to support student learning.
- Participate in tutor training, team meetings, and other professional development activities.
- Exhibit a willingness to assist students with various needs and abilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant academic field (e.g., Creative Writing, Education, English, ESOL/ESL, Math, Science, etc.).
- Prior teaching or tutoring experience in a relevant academic field (e.g., Creative Writing, Education, English, ESOL/ESL, Math, Science, etc.).
