Responsibilities
- Receive and process incoming laboratory samples, ensuring proper identification, collection requirements, labeling, and documentation.
- Enter patient information, test requests, and results into the correct system accurately and promptly.
- Research test orders and establish necessary requirements for proper processing of specimens.
- Assist supervisor/manager in updating and changing protocols when needed.
- Prepare laboratory samples for testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and labeling as necessary.
- Assist laboratory personnel in locating and retrieving samples and test results for further analysis and reference purposes.
- Provide support in resolving sample or test-related inquiries and issues from internal staff, healthcare providers, and clients.
- Monitor phlebotomy station bench when needed, process specimens including in-labbing, add-ons, stat orders, delivery, and notification to phlebotomy staff.
- Maintain the work area, including ordering all necessary supplies.
- Help cover inpatient phlebotomy as needed if certified and competency is current.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in biological science or related field required; or high school diploma and additional phlebotomy certification or training in clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
- Familiarity with laboratory terminology, sample handling procedures, and laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
