About the role
The school supports children and young people aged 4-19 with a range of additional needs including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), speech, language and communication needs, sensory processing differences and associated learning disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Planning and delivering highly differentiated lessons tailored to individual EHCP outcomes.
- Supporting pupils with Autism, SLD, MLD, communication needs and complex learning profiles.
- Delivering engaging learning through practical, sensory and highly personalized teaching approaches.
- Using visual supports, structured routines and alternative communication methods, including AAC where appropriate, to maximize engagement and independence.
- Promoting communication, emotional regulation, social development and positive behavior throughout the school day.
- Leading and working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants to ensure consistently high-quality classroom support.
- Liaising closely with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists and other multidisciplinary professionals.
- Monitoring pupil progress through observation, assessment and personalized learning targets.
- Preparing reports for Annual Reviews and contributing to EHCP reviews and future planning.
- Built positive partnerships with parents and carers to ensure consistency between home and school.
- Promoting safeguarding and maintaining the highest standards of care and wellbeing for every pupil.
Requirements
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
- Experience working with pupils with SEND, Autism or additional learning needs within either specialist or mainstream education.
- A strong understanding of adaptive teaching, differentiated curriculum planning and inclusive classroom practice.
- Excellent behavior management skills with a calm, patient and nurturing approach.
- The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils who communicate and learn in different ways.
- Experience working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and multidisciplinary teams.
- A genuine passion for specialist education and improving outcomes for children and young people with additional needs.
