About the Role
Performs diagnostic and service work on residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories under minimal supervision. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete satisfaction while promoting products and services.
Responsibilities
- Perform residential and/or light commercial service and maintenance calls with minimal supervision.
- Analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer HVAC and water heater problems courteously, professionally, and accurately.
- Present comfort options and promote HVAC products and services using a consultative sales approach to enhance customer retention and satisfaction.
- Diagnose and service heating, air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration equipment, and related accessories.
- Inspect equipment and perform diagnostics to identify potential issues and prevent premature breakdowns or callbacks.
- Complete routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as required.
- Deliver and remove parts and equipment needed for service work.
- Record all required information on customer calls using a hand-held device; complete forms and paperwork accurately and promptly.
- Collect payments from customers.
- Communicate with dispatch to provide accurate status updates on activities and availability.
- Deliver excellent customer service and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Generate and communicate replacement product sales leads to the Sales and Service Coordinator.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and accounting of company property, vehicles, and tools.
- Represent the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters.
- Follow standard procedures, maintain vehicle stock, return defective warranty parts, and replenish supplies as needed.
- Perform other similar or related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems; previous experience as an Installer, Maintenance, or Service Technician.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.
- Technical training certification in HVAC.
- Proven HVAC sales experience, preferably with direct-to-consumer selling.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to understand and address customer concerns.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality service.
- All valid licensing or certification required by federal, state, provincial, or local laws for the geographical work area (e.g., EPA and safety certifications).
- Proficiency in servicing heating, air conditioning, ventilation equipment, and related accessories.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to operate necessary tools and equipment.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electrical, refrigerant, and duct system issues.
- Ability to start up and balance airflow, align belts and pulleys, and install basic duct fittings with minimal supervision.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water systems, steam boiler systems, humidifiers, and related equipment.
- Effective communication and time-management skills.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Availability for flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum 0–2 years of experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces.
- Ability to continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including hot, cold, humid, slippery surfaces, heights, and congested areas.
- Ability to safely climb ladders rated for 300lb load capacity with a 30lb tool belt.
- Natural or corrected vision for close, distance, and peripheral tasks with normal depth perception.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
