About the role
This job opportunity is located at Sparrow Eaton Hospital in Charlotte, MI. The role requires a registered respiratory therapist who is credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care and licensed by the State of Michigan.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients' condition and initiate appropriate emergency and non-emergency procedures.
- Administer aerosol medications, oxygen support therapy, and perform a variety of respiratory treatments and/or diagnostic procedures.
- Initiate, operate, maintain, monitor, and ensure safe patient care practices and operation of various respiratory therapy equipment and devices.
- Collaborate with referring physicians, primary care physicians, and medical director to establish an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
- Report/document pertinent patient care and status data in accordance with established guidelines.
- May accept and document physician telephone orders for respiratory therapy procedures.
- Conduct periodic patient education relating to disease specific self-care.
- Maintain patient exercise, perform psychosocial, nutritional, educational, and exercise assessments, and document accordingly.
- Document and bill according to CMS guidelines and AACVPR recommendations.
- Perform routine RT equipment maintenance, cleaning/sterilization, and ensure environmental safety.
- Assist in the transportation of patients to or from the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Gym and assist the physician during various respiratory/cardiology procedures.
- Instruct RT students, medical personnel, and patients and families regarding specific Respiratory Therapy procedures.
- Attend staff meetings and in-service programs as required.
- Keep current in Cardiac and Pulmonary issues through continuing education, conferences, and literature.
- Assess, monitor, and interpret patient EKG tracings, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and oximetry as indicated.
- Terminate exercise when appropriate.
- Be cross-trained and assist in Cardiac Rehab when needed.
Requirements
- Registered Respiratory Therapist: Credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care, licensed by the State of Michigan.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Must obtain Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) within 18 months of hire and stay current with certification.
- Member of the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC), Michigan Society of Respiratory Care (MSRC), American Thoracic Society (ATS), or Association for Respiratory Care (ARC).
- Minimum 2 (two) years of RRT experience, previous Pulmonary Function Testing experience preferred.
- Education: Graduate from a Respiratory Therapy school.
- Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Proficient in hospital-based computer software programs, adaptable to sudden changes in patient scheduling, organized, punctual, and responsible.
