About the role

The American Red Cross seeks volunteers to provide 24‑hour emergency response to local disasters, especially house fires, ensuring affected individuals have access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing. As a Disaster Action Team member you will support families and individuals displaced by emergencies, demonstrate compassion and confidentiality, connect clients with needed resources, and may pursue further training for larger‑scale disaster response.

Responsibilities

• Complete required trainings to support families/individuals displaced by local emergencies (including home fires and similar incidents)
• Sign up for on‑call shifts to be available to respond when needed
• Show utmost compassion and respect for all clients and maintain client confidentiality
• Help connect clients with Red Cross and other services to meet basic needs (shelter, food, clothing, medication, etc.) and make referrals for Mental Health, Spiritual Care, and Health Services when appropriate
• Consider additional training to assist with larger‑scale national disasters in basic and advanced leadership roles

Requirements

• At least basic computer skills
• Effective communication skills
• Flexibility
• COVID‑19 vaccination strongly encouraged and required for in‑person volunteer roles
