About the Role

The American Red Cross is seeking volunteers to join the Disaster Action Team, providing 24-hour emergency response to local disasters, particularly house fires. Volunteers ensure those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter, and clothing.

This is an opportunity for caring individuals to give back to their community by supporting families and individuals displaced by emergencies, including severe storms and home fires.

Responsibilities

• Complete required trainings to support families/individuals affected by local emergencies.
• Sign up for on-call shifts to respond when needed.
• Demonstrate compassion and respect for all clients while maintaining confidentiality.
• Connect clients with Red Cross and other resources to meet their basic needs (shelter, food, clothing, medication, etc.).
• Make referrals to Red Cross Mental Health, Spiritual Care, and Health Services when needed.
• Consider advanced training to assist with larger-scale national disasters in leadership roles.

Requirements

• Passion for the Red Cross mission.
• Basic computer skills.
• Effective communication skills.
• Flexibility to respond to emergencies.
• COVID-19 vaccination is strongly encouraged and required for in-person volunteer roles.
