About the role
The Freedman Arts District, located in Beaufort, SC, is seeking an experienced business development and grant writing professional to lead its growth initiatives. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in development, particularly within the arts and education sectors.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support the expansion of the Freedman School of Arts, Craft, and Culture.
- Secure grants and donations from foundations, corporations, and individual donors to fund educational programs and community projects.
- Manage relationships with potential sponsors and partners to enhance the district’s visibility and funding opportunities.
- Oversee the art and craft gallery, ensuring it attracts diverse audiences and generates revenue through sales and events.
- Collaborate with the home restoration program to secure funding for homeowners in the Arts District.
- Organize and promote signature events such as "Chalk it up," "Artist Sunday," and "Mistletoe Marketplace" to increase community engagement and revenue.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in development and grant writing, preferably in the arts and education sector.
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, or a related field.
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience working with non-profit organizations and understanding of federal and state regulations.
