SEE Young Filmmakers Hub

About the programme

The SEE Young Filmmakers Hub is aimed at young people aged 12-18 living in Edinburgh, providing them with an opportunity to learn the art of filmmaking, regardless of their circumstances. This practical course offers hands-on training in various filmmaking roles, including sound and lighting design, cinematography, and directing. The Hub encourages young people to explore new interests and strengths, fostering good teamwork skills and self-confidence in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Group 1 (12-14 years old)

Tailor-made for young, budding film enthusiasts eager to explore the fundamentals of filmmaking, learners will participate in a series of fun and engaging workshops from September 2025 to May 2026. The workshops will cover all the basics, from story development and production design to cinema trips for inspiration. The programme is designed to help participants earn an Explore level Arts Award through experiential learning during the sessions, without the need for additional homework.

Group 2 (14-15 years old)

From September to May, this group offers a carefully paced schedule in a relaxing and supportive environment where participants can delve into camera composition, lighting, sound recording, and production design. Missing a session won’t hinder progress. The programme includes Industry Masterclasses, providing rare opportunities to learn from industry professionals, enhancing skills and overall experience.

Group 3 (16-18 years old)

Running from September to May, this programme is designed to offer aspiring filmmakers a relaxed space to explore and experiment with cinematography, sound recording, screenwriting, and other skills. It provides a valuable creative outlet without additional stress, featuring a supportive hub environment, Industry Masterclasses, hands-on workshops, and the opportunity to create high-quality short films.

Schedule

• Group 1 & 2: Every Thursday, 6pm to 8pm, from 18th September 2025 to 28th May 2026 (excluding October, Christmas, February, and Easter breaks).
• Group 3: Every Wednesday, 6pm to 8pm, from 17th September 2025 to 27th May 2026 (excluding October, Christmas, February, and Easter breaks).

All sessions take place at Screen Education Edinburgh.
