Security Specialist

The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Security Specialist within the Nuclear C3 Integration Directorate Security Office at Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Salary range: $90,925 - $127,568 (includes 20.15% locality pay for Colorado Springs).

About the role

The primary purpose of this position is to fill a multi-disciplinary Security Specialist role supporting AFNWC/NC. In this role, you will implement and integrate the DAF Security Enterprise (DAFSE) framework across Information, Physical, Operational, Industrial, Personnel, SCI, and Special Access Programs (SAP). As a subject matter expert, you will provide critical advice, oversight, and integration for Center, Directorate, and Program Office activities, ensuring the protection of highly sensitive, mission-critical acquisition and operational assets.

Responsibilities

• Apply comprehensive knowledge of the concepts, principles, and practices of the DAF Security Enterprise, including personnel, industrial, information, and physical security, to effectively implement and manage integrated security programs.
• Understand and apply governing security directives, regulations, and instructions from DoD, DAF, and other national-level agencies to ensure program compliance and oversight.
• Analyze, evaluate, and develop security programs and policies that mitigate threats, reduce vulnerabilities, and meet mission requirements across a wide spectrum of security disciplines (e.g., SAP, SCI, OPSEC, C-InTP, Cybersecurity).
• Communicate complex security concepts and requirements clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external partners.
• Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders across various organizations, fostering a collaborative environment to achieve security objectives.
• Apply risk management principles and cost-analysis techniques to assess security programs, identify priorities, and recommend effective solutions that balance security needs with operational and mission requirements.
• Handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship.
• Must be eligible for and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.
• At least 5 years of experience with multiple security disciplines and demonstrated expertise in security program management.
• Knowledge of government contractual practices and requirements for development and purchase of Air Force acquisition programs and/or supporting programs/projects; familiarity with Defense Industrial Base security organization, operations, and management practices is a plus.
• Knowledge in program protection, physical, system, information, industrial, personnel, communication, and operations security concepts, principles, and practices with collateral, and SCI programs; ability to plan, implement, and integrate security programs in these areas is highly desired.
• Extensive knowledge of Air Force Acquisition Enterprise missions, functions, and structure to ensure effective implementation and oversight of security program concepts, principles, and practices is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to develop, analyze, and evaluate security programs to meet mission requirements and improve the security program for assigned area is highly desired.
• Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, are mandatory.
• Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with leadership, coworkers, and customers, contribute to a cooperative working environment, and successfully accomplish the mission.
• Knowledge of nuclear system military standards and governing documents is highly desirable.
• Department of Defense Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC) conferral is required within 2 years of employment or initial assignment to this position.

Must demonstrate the ability to bridge geographical gaps, ensuring uninterrupted support, visibility, and collaboration without daily, in-person supervision.
• Technical & Operational Background: A broad technical background with related Air Force operational and acquisitions experience is desired, specifically including experience in operations, research, analysis, and developmental planning.
• Advanced Problem Solving: Application of critical thinking skills, risk management, configuration management, and decision analysis to solve complex, multi-disciplinary security challenges through innovative approaches.

Pay

Salary range: $90,925 - $127,568 per year (includes 20.15% locality pay for Colorado Springs).

Schedule

• Full-time position.
• May require up to 10% travel.
