Security Software Developer/Automation Engineer

Contract position based in Fort Worth, TX (hybrid).

About the role

This is a developer role focused on security management and automation, similar to a DevSec Engineer. The team works with public infrastructure digital certificates (PKI) and will implement automation using HashiCorp Vault. The ideal candidate will develop new features and functionalities to onboard and automate processes, minimizing manual customer tasks. While most work is back-end, some front-end experience (e.g., Java) is helpful.

The client values candidates who are passionate about this type of work, demonstrate potential to learn HashiCorp Vault (even with other vault experience), and fit well with a collaborative team culture ("we before I").

Responsibilities

• Write, test, and document technical work products (e.g., code, scripts, processes) according to organizational standards.
• Raise the quality and craftsmanship of products and systems.
• Conduct root cause analysis to identify domain-level problems and prescribe action items to mitigate.
• Design self-contained systems within a team's domain and lead implementations of significant capabilities in existing systems.
• Coach team members in techniques to improve reliability, resiliency, security, and performance.
• Decompose intricate and interconnected designs into implementations that can be effectively built and maintained by less experienced engineers.
• Anticipate trouble areas in systems under development and guide the team in instrumentation practices for observability and supportability.
• Define test suites and instrumentation to ensure latency and availability targets are consistently met in production.
• Lead by example in prioritizing the closure of open vulnerabilities.
• Evaluate potential attack surfaces in systems under development, identify best practices to mitigate, and guide teams in their implementation.
• Identify small batches of work to deliver the highest value quickly.
• Ensure reuse is a first-class consideration in all team implementations and advocate for broad reusability.
• Formally mentor teammates and guide them through learning journeys.
• Observe the environment and identify opportunities for introducing new approaches to problems.
• Automate processes using HashiCorp Vault and PKI digital certificates.

Requirements

• 5 to 7 years of full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) experience designing, developing, and implementing large-scale applications (front-end and back-end).
• 5+ years with Python and proficiency with FastAPI.
• 5+ years with RESTful web services.
• Experience with HashiCorp Vault, AWS Secrets Management, or Azure Key Vault (client primarily uses HashiCorp but is open to candidates with similar vault/secrets tools experience).
• 2 to 5 years of development experience is acceptable if the candidate demonstrates passion and cultural fit.
• Familiarity with infrastructure and how it is run.
• Experience with application onboarding integrations is helpful.
• Some front-end experience (e.g., Java) is a plus.
• Collaborative mindset and strong team culture fit.

Pay
