Required Qualifications
- Must have a current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State to qualify.
- Must meet physical/medical requirements and undergo substance abuse screening as determined by the Director of Health Services of the department of Civil Service.
- A thorough character investigation will be conducted by University Police.
- Must have, keep, and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License.
- Motor vehicle record must be free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
Brief Description of Duties
- Patrol buildings and facilities to identify, report, and address safety and security concerns.
- Greet visitors and staff while verifying credentials.
- Respond to facility calls for service, events, and emergencies.
- Respond to calls for assistance with difficult clients and visitors.
- Assist clients with disabilities, visitors, or employees in all possible ways including escorting them through areas.
- Assist police and firefighters at the scene of accidents.
- Prepare written reports of shift activities including actions taken to report or resolve incidents or problems.
- Prevent theft of state or personal property by means of presence and witness.
- May operate a motor vehicle to transport people and cargo to emergency situations.
- Administer first aid to sick or injured persons.
Special Notes
- These are temporary, part-time, hourly positions with varied shifts and pass days.
- Night and weekend work may be required.
- FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for overtime provisions.
- Internal and external searches to occur simultaneously.
- Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference.
- $21.86 per hour.

- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook University's Employee Health Services (The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination).
- Clear a background investigation.
- Submit (3) written references.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
Posting Overview
- This position will remain posted until filled or for a maximum of 90 days.
