About the Role
The Sergeant reports to the Security Chief and supervises Security Officers while overseeing security operations during their assigned shift at Touro University-Nevada. This role ensures physical security for employees, students, guests, campus property, and equipment by adhering to department procedures and policies. In addition to supervisory duties, the Sergeant must be capable of performing all Security Officer tasks.

Responsibilities
- Supervise, assign, and evaluate the activities of security officers on the assigned shift, including:
- Evaluating, counseling, and mentoring shift personnel on job performance
- Overseeing training for new employees assigned to the shift
- Conducting performance evaluations and mentoring security officers
- Monitoring the training progress of new security employees
- Recommending progressive disciplinary action as needed
- Plan daily assignments and conduct daily briefings for security operations
- Assess shift personnel and equipment needs
- Monitor shift operations to maintain a safe and secure campus environment
- Delegate tasks to security officers and department personnel, and inform the Security Chief of potential issues or recommended solutions
- Supervise access control, patrolling, inspecting, and securing of premises
- Supervise emergency management for incidents on campus and coordinate with law enforcement, fire department, EMTs, or other emergency responders
- Review Security Officer daily logs and report issues to the Security Chief
- Operate the security camera system with proficiency
- Supervise the visitor management system and parking enforcement for all University-operated parking lots, both on and off campus
- Prepare written reports and document all security-related issues using the current report management system
- Respond to, compile, and report information on theft, alarms, accidents, and other incidents
- Report maintenance and service issues to the Facilities Department
- Respond to all alarm activations
- Ensure vehicle log sheets are properly completed
- Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
Education & Certification
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. (Required)
- Nevada PILB Guard Card and completion of Nevada PILB training (Preferred)
- Valid and unrestricted Nevada driver’s license
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certificate (e.g., Red Cross or American Heart Association)
Experience
- Five years of security or law enforcement experience
- One year of supervisory experience in security or law enforcement (Preferred)

- Effective leadership (e.g., critical thinking, emotional intelligence, self-motivation, impartiality)
- Ability to build teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs and computer skills
- Ability to command and control emergencies and high-stress situations
- Strong customer service skills
- Effective organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to problem-solve and multi-task in a busy environment
- Sufficient hearing to respond to verbal speech, alarms, radio, and telephone communications
- Sufficient visual acuity to read identification, computer screens, and distinguish faces
- Ability to stand, walk, and/or drive for up to 90% of the assigned shift
- Ability to work independently and operate handheld radios and communication equipment
- Ability to work all shifts
- Ability to lift objects up to 50 lbs.
- CPR certification
