Responsibilities
- Preserve the peace, protect District property, prevent criminal acts, apprehend violators, enforce District policies, enforce the Student Handbook, and adhere to the Security Department’s Operations Manual.
- Work under the direct supervision of the first line security patrol supervisor to whose area they are assigned.
- Communicate verbally, in body language, and writing. Reports must be clear, concise, and complete with minimal spelling and grammar errors.
- Maintain and clean department-issued equipment and assigned vehicles.
- Initiate contact with and maintain a good working relationship with other law enforcement agencies and security organizations during job performance.
- Answer calls for service routed from the dispatcher communication center via district-issued cell phones, hand-held radios, mobile base station radios, and other modes of communication.
- Accept transfers to different assignments in the district’s best interest.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
- Successfully pass the Safety & Security Department pre-hire multiple choice test and oral interview process.
- Successfully passed the Kansas City Public Schools pre-employment drug screen.
- Note: Subject to post-accident drug screens and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
- Successfully pass the Kansas City Public Schools pre-employment physical abilities test.
- Note: Subject to physical abilities testing following an illness or injury that requires an officer to be absent from duty for a prolonged period.
- Successfully pass the Kansas City Public Schools pre-employment psychological exam.
- Note: Subject to psychological testing following a catastrophic event or injury.
- Obtain a Certificate of Completion for IS-100.c - Introduction to the Incident Command System.
- Obtain a Certificate of Completion for IS-700.b – Introduction to the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
- Qualify with the selected handgun as outlined by the Kansas City, Missouri Board of Police Commissioners, Private Officers Licensing Unit.
- Qualify for and maintain a Private Officers’ Commission from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Able to operate a security vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous law enforcement and security experience.
- Prior experience working with juveniles in an educational environment.
