About the role
The Security Officer position at Georgia Power is responsible for protecting employees, contractors, visitors, and property at Plant Wansley. Key responsibilities include enforcing rules, administering security procedures, responding to alarms, and processing personnel for access.
Responsibilities
- Enforce and administer established rules, procedures, and appropriate laws.
- Respond to alarms and security requests for security services.
- Process personnel for access authorization to Plant Wansley in accordance with established procedures.
- Interpret procedures and regulations and make decisions regarding plant access control.
Requirements
- Physical abilities, drug screening, and psychological testing required.
- Must possess and/or obtain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
- Must qualify before and annually with issued handgun and shotgun.
- Must meet all local, state, and federal requirements for firearm issuance and private security.
- Must successfully complete psychological test, physical, background investigation, and drug test.
- Must qualify for firearm use and re-qualify with semiautomatic pistol and pump action shotgun at least twice annually with a minimum passing score of 80% or better.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts including holidays and weekends.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in the military, law enforcement, corrections, or armed security with a strong background in customer service and external relations preferred.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system desired.
- Computer experience – ability to proficiently use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Fluency in Spanish a plus.

Other Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must meet all local, state, and federal requirements pertaining to the issuance of a firearm and its application to private security.
- Must be able to pass a background check for the Georgia Board of Private Detective and Security Agencies.
- Must successfully complete the required tests associated with this position.
- Must be able to pass a State-mandated private security officer training.
- Must be able to work rotating shifts: days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Must be able and willing to work in severe weather conditions.
