Responsibilities

  • Investigates and quells hospital incidents and disturbances to maintain security for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Completes descriptive reports for supervisory personnel and notifies appropriate city officials (police and fire).
  • Performs regular perimeter and internal patrols (on foot and mobile) to protect patients, property, and prevent unauthorized entry.
  • Conducts investigations into hazardous conditions, theft, criminal activity, and other security or safety issues.
  • Monitors access control systems, fire and duress alarms, and security video systems.
  • Controls traffic to ensure emergency vehicle access and safety during incidents or helicopter transports.
  • Maintains security of restricted areas by locking doors according to schedules or special circumstances.
  • Provides escorts for staff to vehicles upon request.
  • Delivers deceased bodies to the morgue and releases them to authorized persons per policy.
  • Responds to all emergency codes following department guidelines.
  • Alerts management of activities or deviations requiring disciplinary action or follow-up.
  • Enforces hospital policies and procedures as directed.
  • Maintains a professional, approachable image to encourage assistance requests or information sharing.
  • Conducts contraband searches to ensure patient and employee safety.
  • Monitors individuals or situations to maintain safety.
  • Oversees staff parking permit process and monitors compliance per policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High-school diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire and maintain certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association within 9 months of hire.
  • Successful completion of Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics in Healthcare within 6 months of hire.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Writing skills to complete reports and paperwork meeting departmental standards.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare security, police work, or military service.
  • Valid FOID card.
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree.
