About the role
Provides a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing hospital security regulations and by continuously watching for and reporting potential safety hazards and unusual occurrences in a timely manner through patrol of assigned areas. Investigates complaints or potential criminal conduct; assists in restraining patients as necessary; provides protective services. Possesses and exhibits excellent customer service skills. If applicable, responsible for the arrest of criminal suspects under the authority of State Special Police license.
Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas, with particular attention to those where security problems have occurred.
- Identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft, injuries, or damages to hospital property, patients, visitors, and employees.
- Maintain strict confidentiality standards at all times.
- Investigate thefts, shortages, and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct by questioning individuals involved with specific incidents.
- Notify appropriate law enforcement agencies of potential/real civil or criminal misconduct and detain suspicious individuals as appropriate; make arrests when authorized; participate in subsequent court proceedings as required.
- Prepare and submit written reports in a complete and accurate manner; make notations in the log of all incidents; keep the Supervisor informed at all times.
- Maintain accountability for valuables/property and forms of evidence coming into the incumbent's custody; ensure safekeeping and maintain documentation.
- Perform as Dispatcher utilizing integrated security systems; radio dispatch personnel to respond to occurrences and phone calls for assistance; provide and maintain documentation.
- Participate in assistance with workplace and domestic victims; respond to medical emergencies; when authorized, assist in the restraint of patients; protect dignitaries; control pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Voluntarily participate in various departmental committees, task forces, and teams.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's Degree; Criminal Justice preferred; no substitution of experience for degree.
- Licenses and Credentials: Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License]
- Experience: 3–5 years preferred in hospital, security/police, emergency medical, or customer services.

- Strong writing skills to provide and maintain documentation to support data.
- Intermediate computer skills: typing and use of database software.
Schedule
40 hours per week, Sunday–Thursday, Evening shift.
Pay
Hourly range: $22.22 – $31.71; grade 5.
Work Location
1153 Centre Street, onsite.
