About the role

This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, employees, visitors, and other customers of the System. The role involves patrolling buildings and premises, responding to emergencies, and assisting with various security tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion.
  • Patrols parking lots to ensure the safety of individuals and the security of parked vehicles.
  • Reports all suspicious activity, parking violations, and abandoned vehicles.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as accidents, injuries, fire alarms, crimes in progress, and safety hazards.
  • Provides assistance, summons proper authorities, and polices areas to maintain order, safety, and protect property.
  • Employs necessary equipment, including PPE, during unsafe situations and interactions with patients.
  • Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from employees, students, visitors, and other customers; provides physical restraint of psychiatric patients and others as needed.
  • Maintains post as assigned in accordance with training.
  • Notifies police in case of theft, breaking and entering, or other related criminal matters requiring notification of authorities.
  • Assists in investigations.
  • Maintains records, prepares incident reports, and other documents pertinent to safety and security activities.
  • Attends hearings.
  • Maintains visual inspections; reports safety and/or fire hazards or security violations.
  • Coordinates and/or responds to on-site fire drills; responds to on-site fire alarms and assists the responding fire department.
  • Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities.
  • Supports the parking policy, enforcing parking regulations, providing traffic management, and performing other related duties.
  • Complies with all department and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Affords administrative support for programs and policy implementation.
  • In the absence of a Supervisor or Security Officer III, conducts shift huddles reviewing incidents from previous shift, current situational awareness information, and upcoming events requiring security intervention and/or assistance.
  • Assists Supervisors by ensuring appropriate staffing for oncoming shifts if necessary.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum Work Experience: 2 years WellSpan Security Officer experience or a combination of experience in good standing.
  • Required Licenses: Heartsaver CPR/AED within 90 days.
  • Required Driver's License.
  • Successful completion of the following training courses within 90 days:
    • FEMA ISP: IS-100.c – Intro to Incident Command System
    • FEMA ISP: IS-200.C – Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
    • FEMA ISP: IS-242.c – Effective Communication
    • Practical and Tactical Handcuffing
    • Oleoresin Capsicum (Gel)
    • Taser
    • Behavioral Emergency Response Training (BERT)

Common Expectations

  • Remains current on all required trainings.
  • Attends trainings/educational programs as assigned.
  • Participates in department meetings and in-service meetings as directed.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through supporting improvement and innovation.
  • Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, and safety standards.
