Security Officer - Campus Police

Purpose

To guard, patrol, and/or monitor UMMC premises. To provide information, directions, and traffic management.

Education & Experience

• High school diploma/GED
• Certifications, Licenses Or Registration Required:
  • Valid US Driver’s License
  • MS Driver's license required post-hire within 30 days
  • FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 courses required post-hire within 90 days

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Skill in providing protection services to individuals
• Skill in utilizing building security and lock systems and procedures
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, visitors, and staff
• Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports
• Ability to resolve customer complaints and concerns
• Ability to understand and enforce safety procedures

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas to ensure personal, building, and equipment security
• Examines doors and windows to ensure that they are secure
• Scrutinizes and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, unlocked security doors, and safety concerns
• Provides information and directions to patients and visitors
• Prepares applicable reports
• Directs traffic and enforces motor vehicle operation and parking regulations

Physical and Environmental Demands

• Frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold
• Frequent handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment
• Exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations
• Occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours
