Responsibilities
- Conducts continuous random patrols, utilizing the patrol vehicle, bicycle, or foot patrol.
- Responds to all calls received from the public, hospital staff, and the security dispatcher.
- Makes sure all fire codes are monitored and paged as received on the fire monitor system.
- Responds to hospital emergency overhead pages as determined by security dispatch.
- Manages physical situations involving patients in crisis.
- Escorts patients to In Patient Mental Health, or other areas of the facility, as requested by staff.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintains and reports alarms received on various panels.
- Answers all calls for assistance, received on the security emergency phone line.
- Creates maintenance work orders for all calls received on the facilities help line.
- Monitors CCTV system for suspicious circumstances and dispatches a security officer when necessary.
- Aids with helicopter flight operations; secures and unlocks doors as prescribed by policies and procedures.
- Notifies the Security Manager and/or Supervisor via chain of command for major incidents.
- Enforces parking policy, as directed.
- Escorts employees to and from their vehicle, as requested or assigned by the Security Supervisor or the Security Manager.
- Responds to all panic alarms located throughout the facility.
- Armed security staff will respond to an active shooter or other lethal threat and neutralize the threat if possible.
- Enforces that all contractors working above the ceiling and/or removing a ceiling tile have a yellow copy of the Above Ceiling Access Permit.
- Writes reports as required by policies.
- Follows all departmental and medical center policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Credential: TEAM ADVANCED: Techniques for Effective Aggression Mgt
- Credential: PPE: Pre-Employment Psychological Examination
- Credential: DMVCHECK: DMV Record Check
- Credential: CPL: Concealed Pistol License
- Credential: BLS: Basic Life Support
- Credential: MCOLES FIREARMS: MI Commission on Law Enforcement Firearms
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
- Military, corrections or law enforcement experience preferred
Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions
- Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as trauma, grief and death.
- Able to wear bullet-resistant vest.
- Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
- Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
- Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
- Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.
- May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
- Physical Demand Level: Moderate.
- Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and / or Walk/Stand/Push/ Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
