Security Officer, 3rd shift, Per Diem

About the Role

Safeguard, patrol, and monitor buildings, grounds, and property to protect lives and property, prevent theft, fire, vandalism, and unauthorized entry while enforcing Virtua policy and procedure. Assist visitors, patients, vendors, and staff by providing excellent customer service, hospitality, and a positive experience. Conduct weapon screening at public entrances using approved technology, provide accurate information and directions, and respond to all emergency situations. Escalate emergencies to law enforcement as needed and monitor alarms and security cameras.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties associated with assigned posts, including walking and mobile security and safety rounds, stationary posts, traffic control, and special assignments.
• Monitor doors, surveillance cameras, and alarms.
• Utilize Health System technology and systems for visitor control, data input/output, weapon screening (handheld wands and EVOLV system), investigations, incident reports, shift logs, access control, infant protection, and securing sensitive areas.
• Communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) with team members, supervisors, nursing staff, security teams, and law enforcement agencies.
• Provide directions and escorts for visitors, vendors, patients, and staff to appropriate locations within and outside facilities and parking lots.
• Verify staff ID badges and ensure the public (visitors, vendors, contractors) obtain proper ID bands, passes, and badges; fabricate ID badges as needed.
• Respond to major and minor maintenance issues and communicate with leadership to resolve situations.
• Respond to emergency situations such as CODE Security and CODE RED alerts; serve as a 1st level operations responder.
• Recognize and respond to hazardous/chemical substance spills; assist with specialized equipment as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Must be at least 21 years of age and meet insurance requirements.
• 2 years of security experience preferred.
• Ability to stay levelheaded and respond quickly in stressful situations.
• Proficient written and oral communication skills.
• NJ Security Officers Registration Act (SORA) certification preferred.

Pay

$18.69 - $26.01 hourly.
