10-month position (August – June). Works only the number of student days in the calendar. Candidates with experience in school security and working with children are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Represent the Board of Education in a competent, confidential, and professional manner during interactions with parents, students, teachers, staff, administrators, visitors, and the community.
- Follow all prescribed procedures regarding school lockdowns, including communication procedures with the Solon Police Department.
- Perform all legal directives, verbal or written, issued by the Administration or Security Director, provided primary responsibilities are not compromised.
- Randomly patrol building areas, including hallways, cafeteria, and restrooms, inspecting doors, windows, and security equipment. Screen visitors requesting entry into the building.
- Learn and become familiar with the Solon Schools Emergency Plan and any applicable crisis plan for the assigned building. Treat all related information as confidential.
- Assist and participate in all practice drills, noting any issues that need to be addressed.
- Report any issues, problems, malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or protocol violations by the end of the day to the building principal and Security Director via email. Note issues on the daily log. Immediately report any substantial risk to health or safety.
- Monitor activities (e.g., assemblies and PTA meetings) and maintain high visibility and contact with students, staff, parents, and the public.
- Check all visitors, unauthorized individuals, and student IDs (if issued for late arrivals), taking appropriate action as necessary. Contact the Solon Police Department to handle disruptive individuals. Ensure all individuals sign into the building.
- Learn the layout of the assigned building, noting the location of emergency exits, AEDs, cameras, and equipment rooms.
- Prepare reports as necessary or requested by the Security Director or Administration.
- Follow all District policies, regulations, and procedures, including wearing required clothing and maintaining good personal hygiene.
- Complete and pass any required training deemed necessary to perform duties.
Pay
$18.29 – $20.54 per hour.
