About the role

Reporting to the Director of Operations and/or Operations Supervisor, the Security Guard individually and/or in a team provides a secure environment for clients/residents and staff. The Security Guard will be an active listener and provide high quality customer service and respond by exhibiting cross-cultural awareness with the ability to promote and contribute to an equitable and inclusive anti-racist organizational culture and environment.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as Fire Safety Guard / Fire Safety Coordinator and carries out all fire safety policies and procedures in compliance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.
  • Ensures all building emergency exits and walkways are unobstructed and secure.
  • Performs building security operations and front-desk duties including but not limited to:
    • Maintains ongoing communication with preceding and following shifts, including clinical staff.
    • Documents all incidents and unusual occurrences in compliance with Urban Pathways and funding and regulatory agency requirements and guidelines.
    • Documents client activities and incident reporting in client database system(s).
  • Screens visitors based on Urban Pathways policies and procedures.
  • Affords assistance in monitoring resident behavior and well-being including client check-in procedures, crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Affords assistance in monitoring resident/client medication as required.
  • Affords assistance in ensuring medication delivery is properly documented in appropriate log book in the absence of social service staff.
  • Performs emergency response including CPR defibrillator, AED and first aid as needed.
  • Affords assistance in maintaining safe and non-slippery walkways including but not limited to spreading of salt, deicer and placement of walk-off mats at building entrances, in inclement weather in the absence of maintenance personnel.

Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum one to two years of security experience preferred.
  • Experience with people experiencing homelessness, mental illness and/or substance abuse population preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Outlook, etc.) a plus.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Foreign languages a plus.

Other

  • Required to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, evenings; and to remain on post until relieved.
  • Desire to perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Comfortable with using public transportation to travel to and from various programs sites.

Licenses

  • Fire safety (FO2) certification or ability to obtain such certification within six months of employment.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED – ability to obtain within three months.
  • Security License required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, pull, lift (up to 50 lbs.), carry, climb stairs and ladders, type, write, read, speak, see, and hear.
