What you will be doing:

  • Performing guard and patrol duties in assigned areas to protect life and property.
  • Maintain log of findings and corrective action taken.
  • Perform administrative functions such as entering and maintaining daily logs, incident reports, and conducting investigations.
  • Assure accountability (protocol) of student check-in and out (to and from center grounds).
  • Check identification of personnel and students seeking entrance to or exit from grounds and permit or deny entrance or exit according to established policies and procedures.
  • Auxiliary in transporting ill or injured students and staff as required.
  • Respond to fire alarms, take necessary steps to report fires, assist in suppressing fires, and reset fire alarm equipment.
  • Set up and check operation of intrusion alarm systems in buildings as required.
  • Auxiliary in controlling disturbances.
  • Conduct preliminary investigation of crimes.
  • Promote and support the center wide development of the Career Development Services System (CDSS) program.
  • Provide proactive conflict resolution with students and refer students to counseling and other actions as necessary.
  • Conduct initial investigation of incidents and provide timely documentation of such.
  • Auxiliary in coordinating and instituting programs that foster student retention.
  • Auxiliary in conducting required health and safety inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for a work environment.
  • Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff, and other center customers.
  • Participate in student employability programs and activities.
  • Sustain a positive, respectful, and safe work environment.
  • Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary, and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.
  • Maintain accountability of students and property; adhere to safety practices.

About the role:

The Inland Empire Job Corps Center in San Bernardino, CA, provides quality services to local youth. The ideal candidate should be dedicated to improving people's lives and possess a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of security experience, and prefer experience with the United States Armed Forces, or an organized police department or firefighting organization.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year security experience.
  • Prefer experience with the United States Armed Forces, or an organized police department or firefighting organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry student luggage weighing 50-70 lbs. and frequently climb stairs and walk outdoors on uneven terrain.
  • Maintain a current Security Guard Card and CPR/first aid certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record, unless waived by management.

  • Must maintain a current Security Guard Card and CPR/first aid certification.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Ability to lift and carry student luggage weighing 50-70 lbs.
  • Knowledge of fire suppression techniques.
  • Experience with youth.
  • Ability to conduct preliminary and initial investigations.
  • Ability to mentor and monitor student behavior.
  • Ability to enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy.
  • Ability to model appropriate behaviors and promote the development of Career Success Standards.

Pay:

$21.48 per hour.

Schedule:

Full Time, Varies, 8 hrs. shifts (3:30 pm to 12:00 am).
