Security Engineer II, Stores AppSec
Amazon’s Stores AppSec Team is seeking a Security Engineer to help keep Amazon secure for its customers. In this role, you will attack Amazon’s services, applications, and websites to discover security issues and report them to our internal technology teams. About the role
A Security Engineer at Amazon is expected to be strong in multiple domains. Engineers in this role work closely with teams throughout Information Security, as well as provide technical leadership and advice to teams and leaders across Amazon. You will engage directly with teams in various business verticals, gaining firsthand knowledge of how Amazon is built and operates at a deep, technical level. You will leverage this knowledge to find new ways to break services, processes, and technologies company-wide.
Engineers in this role must demonstrate exemplary judgment in making technical trade-offs between short-term fixes and long-term security and business goals. You will navigate ambiguous situations with composure and tact, providing thought leadership as you discover, invent, and innovate in your duties. A strong sense of customer obsession is necessary to focus on the ultimate goal of keeping Amazon and its customers secure.
Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality application security reviews and penetration tests independently or as part of a team.
- Create detailed engagement plans and thoroughly document findings, gaps, and remediation recommendations.
- Contribute to team tooling, innovation, and improvements.
- Communicate and collaborate with partner teams, service owners, Information Security, and senior leadership to influence, prioritize, and drive the resolution of discovered security findings.
- Thrive in navigating complex stakeholder engagements, exercising strong ownership and making high-judgment decisions focused on what is best for Amazon’s customers.
Requirements
- 3+ years of programming experience in Python, Ruby, Go, Swift, Java, .Net, C++, or similar object-oriented language.
- 2+ years of scripting, programming, and security code review in a common programming language (non-internship).
- 2+ years of troubleshooting systems issues, analyzing logs, or automating basic tasks using command-line tools (non-internship).
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), or 2+ years of IT Security experience.
- Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS, and TCP/IP.
- Knowledge of industry-based security vulnerabilities and remediation techniques.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of any combination of the following: threat modeling, secure coding, identity management and authentication, software development, cryptography, system administration, and network security.
- Experience with command-line tools to troubleshoot protocols, analyze log outputs, or automate basic tasks.
- Experience with AWS products and services.
- Experience in scripting, programming, or security code reviewing in a common language, such as Python, Java, or C++.
- Experience performing security activities across one or more phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), such as security design review, threat modeling, secure code review, and security testing.

Pay
Base salary range: $159,300.00 - $202,400.00 USD annually (USA, TX, Austin). Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
