About the role

The Lead AI Security Engineer is a senior-level technical position responsible for enabling the secure integration and adoption of artificial intelligence capabilities across the organization. This role involves defining security and risk requirements for enterprise AI solutions, designing and implementing effective security controls, and serving as a hands-on technical leader. Operating at the intersection of cybersecurity, platform engineering, and emerging AI technologies, the incumbent will support enterprise AI platforms such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude, and internally developed agentic AI systems, including Azure AI Foundry. The role requires translating emerging AI risks and security expectations into scalable, actionable security patterns that can be applied consistently across various platforms. The Lead AI Security Engineer partners closely with platform, engineering, and product teams to embed security requirements into architecture, design, and operational processes. They will lead efforts in tool selection, control design, and security assessments, ensuring robust security postures for AI systems. The role emphasizes practical security engineering judgment, balancing risk mitigation with enabling business innovation. The candidate must possess strong technical expertise, practical AI knowledge, and the ability to develop security frameworks aligned with industry standards and enterprise needs.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in information technology or cybersecurity, including at least five years in security engineering or related technical fields such as cloud security, identity and access management, data protection, or security operations.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing security controls in modern environments, including cloud platforms, APIs, identity systems, and monitoring tools.
  • Proven ability to define security requirements, standards, and frameworks within complex enterprise settings.
  • Practical knowledge or strong working understanding of AI or large language model (LLM)-based systems, including associated risks and security implications.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering and platform teams to incorporate security into architecture, delivery pipelines, and operational practices.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies and guide technical decision-making processes.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and leading initiatives from conception through implementation.
  • Familiarity with Azure-based platforms and services such as Azure AI Foundry is preferred.
  • Exposure to enterprise AI platforms like Microsoft Copilot, Claude, or similar solutions is advantageous.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, including identity and access management, data protection, monitoring, secure architecture, and security operations.
  • Deep knowledge of AI and LLM-related risks, such as data exposure, prompt manipulation, unsafe tool use, misuse of agent capabilities, and auditability challenges.
  • Ability to develop security and risk requirements from ambiguous or emerging technology risks.
  • Skill in translating security requirements into practical engineering solutions, configurations, and implementation patterns.
  • Familiarity with industry frameworks such as NIST Risk Management Framework, MITRE ATLAS, OWASP Top 10, and OWASP guidance for large language model applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across diverse teams.

Education and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (equivalent experience may be considered).
  • Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISM, Security+, GIAC, or cloud security certifications are preferred.
