Security Dispatcher
About the role
Kamehameha Schools, Kapalama Campus is hiring for Security Dispatchers to join the Kapalama Security Team. This is a Temporary position, with potential for up to 40 hours a week based on needs.
Responsibilities
- Receives calls for emergency and non-emergency security services for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and dispatches necessary units.
- Dispatches necessary units as needed in accordance with established procedures.
- Gathers, organizes, and documents information into a computer system.
- Maintains effective and efficient communications with the security department patrol officers and outside emergency responders, law enforcement officers, and the general public.
- Makes telephone notifications and performs computer data queries for patrol officers and authorized Operations Support staff.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 6 months of work experience in a public contact position providing information and/or a service, or in a position where the primary responsibility is interacting with people.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrate clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to hear alarms and other auditory warning devices.
- Ability to multi-task and remain calm under stressful conditions.
- Ability to type a minimum of 25 words per minute.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of standard office equipment (computer, copier, fax machine) and computer programs, i.e. Word, Excel & Outlook.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Security experience in a K-12 school environment.
- Minimum of 1 year work experience in security, police or emergency related work environment.
- Associate of Arts degree in a security, law enforcement, emergency management, or closely related field.
- Good interpersonal skills to effectively relate with staff, parents, students and the general public.
- Safety training in OSHA rules and regulations.
Physical And Mental Requirements
- Frequently sits, performs desk-based computer tasks, writes by hand, stands, walks and lift/and/carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally twists, bends, stoops, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp firmly.
- Frequently views multiple video display terminals for extended periods of time and uses near and far vision to read documents and computer screens.
Working Conditions
- Work is generally performed in an office environment, but at times may be outdoors.
- Work assignments may be conducted 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.
