Security Data Engineer
About Our Client
The organization operates at the absolute cutting edge of the defense technology industry, focusing explicitly on rapidly enhancing U.S. and allied military capabilities through advanced, software-first infrastructure. It directly addresses modern challenges in military system design, high-rate manufacturing, and global sales by integrating software-driven engineering expertise and rapid development business models borrowed from leading 21st-century commercial technology companies. The organization leverages a proprietary, AI-powered operating system to convert extensive, disparate battlefield data streams into actionable, real-time command and control insights. Their core commitment lies in bypassing traditional defense acquisition timelines to rapidly deploy cutting-edge autonomy, artificial intelligence, computer vision, sensor fusion, and resilient networking technologies to critical military applications amid increasing global strategic competition.
About the Opportunity
The Security Data Engineer role is pivotal in advancing the organization's enterprise information security architecture by architecting, developing, and implementing high-throughput data pipelines that provide comprehensive, real-time security visibility across the hybrid cloud infrastructure supporting these defense technologies. This position enables efficient security data management, threat detection engineering, and incident response by designing highly scalable, low-latency data solutions. Operating at the intersection of Big Data and Cyber Defense, this technical role contributes directly to safeguarding national security systems and mission-critical assets from sophisticated global threats.
Responsibilities
- Architect, implement, and optimize highly resilient log aggregation pipelines capable of ingesting high-volume data streams from global infrastructure and proprietary applications
- Develop, scale, and maintain a centralized security data lake architecture to allow for long-term historical log retention and rapid query execution
- Design, implement, and manage complex Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) and ELT processes for security data ingestion, schema normalization, and highly optimized columnar storage partitions
- Collaborate directly with detection engineers, incident responders, and cloud architects to establish enterprise best practices for secure data access controls, structured data schemas, and efficient search functionalities
Requirements
- Proven professional experience designing, building, and optimizing modern data lake architectures, distributed data stores, and comprehensive security data management frameworks
- Technical proficiency with advanced ETL/ELT tools, stream-processing frameworks, and managing large-scale, distributed data environments (e.g., Apache Spark, DuckDB, Apache Flink, or Snowflake)
- Strong system-level programming skills in highly performant or statically typed languages, specifically Go, Rust, Java, or Scala
- Hands-on proficiency deploying and managing infrastructure as code (IaC) architectures utilizing Terraform, AWS CDK, or Pulumi within production environments
- Production-level experience navigating hyperscale cloud environments (primarily AWS or Azure) and managing automated CI/CD deployment pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Strong analytical, conceptual problem-solving, and structural project management skills, with a proven ability to own complex data initiatives from conception to production
- U.S. Citizenship Requirement: Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Top Secret security clearance
- Prior experience operating within a Security Operations Center (SOC) framework or working directly with security information and event management (SIEM) data models (such as OCSF)
- Familiarity with containerized orchestration systems (Kubernetes) and secure cloud networking protocols
Pay Range and Compensation Package
Target baseline salary framework: $129,000.00 to $220,000.00 USD annually
Final base salary placement within this high-impact tier is calibrated dynamically based upon the candidate's core distributed systems depth, systems programming experience, cloud architecture skills, and educational background
