About the role
Worldwide Operations Security (WWOS) supports field Security and Loss Prevention for Amazon’s Worldwide Operations, affiliate, and retail businesses. The Security and Loss Prevention (SLP) Specialist is a key hourly position responsible for protecting people, product, and data—including lives, physical property, equipment, inventory, data, and intellectual property—within a designated building. The SLP Specialist reports to the Security and Loss Prevention Cluster Manager and supports operational and cross-functional teams.
Domestic regional travel up to 25% of the time may be required. Physical demands include lifting up to 49 pounds, frequent pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, and reaching; standing or walking for up to 12 hours per shift; working in variable noise levels and temperatures; and continuously climbing and descending stairs (where applicable). This role covers 24/7 operations and requires flexibility to work all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Conduct confidential investigations and prepare prompt written reports of theft, fraud, and critical incidents.
- Identify vulnerabilities (e.g., loss, associate experience, process improvement, data protection, physical security infrastructure) and define mitigating actions while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Serve as a department liaison and security/crisis management subject matter expert for site leadership, keeping them informed on key issues, strategies, and department performance.
- Develop strategies for alarm reduction and conduct system diagnostics for problematic devices by engaging and resolving issues with internal and external partners.
- Perform regular physical security audits and investigate policy violations, security-related incidents, and loss events.
- Collect information through monitoring systems and tools, analyzing data reports, and conducting interviews to identify process vulnerabilities and contribute to mitigating measures.
- Maintain the physical integrity of fulfillment, logistics, and retail operations by auditing and monitoring system health with subject matter experts and external suppliers.
- Interact daily with external security service providers to ensure high-quality security services and a smooth customer experience.
- Act as a point of contact for internal and external departments (e.g., legal, HR, security service providers, local law enforcement) and serve as a subject matter expert in Security and Loss Prevention-related matters.
- Deliver loss prevention-related education and awareness programs to other teams and liaise with stakeholders on policy and procedure across all management levels.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2+ years of Amazon (Blue Badge/FTE) experience, or 1+ year of experience in security service, loss prevention, asset protection, investigations, law enforcement, or operations, or Loss Prevention Qualified Career Choice Graduate.
- 1+ years of experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel, in a professional capacity.
- Experience with workplace incident mitigation or de-escalation and Business Continuity planning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience making and influencing informed decisions by leveraging data and metrics.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced and multi-tasking environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate, collaborate, network, and influence across all business levels in a diverse workforce.
- 1+ year of leadership or management and/or supply chain experience.
- Investigative interviewing experience; Wicklander and Zulawski, Loss Prevention Qualified, Certified Protection Professional, Loss Prevention Certified, Certified Forensic Interviewer, Certified Threat Assessment Certification, or other relevant certifications.
- Experience in physical security systems maintenance/implementation and coordinating scope of work with security vendors.
Pay
Base salary range: $23.60 - $31.73 USD hourly (Albuquerque, NM). Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
