Position Summary
The Securities Gifts Coordinator manages the receipt, processing, and recording of charitable gifts of securities, working closely with donors, brokers, financial institutions, and internal partners to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant gift administration. This role oversees brokerage relationships, supports complex and non-marketable asset gifts, and ensures adherence to IRS, CASE, and university policies while advancing Cornell’s fundraising efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the receipt, transfer, sale, and recording of securities gifts by partnering with donors, gift officers, brokers, bankers, and other financial representatives to ensure timely and accurate processing.
- Calculate and document gift values, prepare gift intake and tax receipt materials, and ensure gifts are allocated and recorded in accordance with donor intent and university procedures.
- Research and identify unknown donors through outreach, giving history analysis, and related records to ensure proper gift attribution and stewardship.
- Conduct regular quality assurance reviews to ensure securities gifts are processed accurately, compliant with IRS, CASE, and university guidelines, and reflected correctly in donor records.
- Support operational excellence by maintaining standard operating procedures, serving as a backup for gift processing functions, and contributing to continuous process improvement, training, and departmental initiatives.

Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree and 2 – 4 years of experience in accounting/banking, accounts receivable and/or financial reporting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to perform work with a high level of accuracy within a high volume, mission critical environment.
- Strong technology acumen, including advanced Excel skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in business and financial mathematics and solid understanding of financial assets such as stocks and bonds and their use in charitable donations.
- Customer service oriented.
Work Location
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role remotely 3 days per week and on-campus 2 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.
