Section Foreman
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

In this position, you’ll guide a skilled track maintenance crew, ensuring the safe construction, inspection, and repair of railway tracks in full compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and CPKC safety standards. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Oversee and direct track crew operations, including cross tie replacement, rail installation, spike adjustment, and ensuring correct tamping of the track ballast
- Lead daily safety meetings and ensure adherence to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols to foster a workplace culture focused on safety
- Conduct regular inspection of rail tracks to promptly identify defects and assess structural integrity, minimizing potential hazards
- Maintain ongoing communication with leadership and crew members across multiple channels, while diligently following all operational and safety guidelines
- Support the scheduling of maintenance activities and coordinate with other departments to secure track access and time
- Document work progress, report track defects or unusual conditions, and maintain timekeeping/attendance records for the crew
- Allocate tools and machinery, and order necessary materials for track projects
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or general equivalency
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Valid driver’s license: Class A Commercial
- 2 years of experience performing basic and advanced track maintenance—primarily in main terminal areas, including at least 1 year overseeing railroad track restoration projects
- Proficient and skilled in interpreting and implementing relevant track standards and procedural guidelines
- Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols, ensuring proper use of all necessary personal protective equipment

- Management Conductor Program
- Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
