Section 508 Subject Matter Expert
About the role
This role serves as an Accessibility Subject Matter Expert within the Business Systems Analysis team. The position requires up to 10% travel and clearance to obtain a Public Trust.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with product, design, and software development teams to ensure accessibility of products.
- Audit systems using tools to identify accessibility issues and recommend solutions.
- Socialize, administer, and support the accessibility strategy and implementation.
- Guide in establishing policies, processes, and programs for Section 508 compliance.
- Maintain awareness of compliance requirements and provide guidance on Section 508 and related accessibility laws, regulations, and standards.
- Support technology planning, design, development, testing, and implementation activities.
- Interpret and provide guidance on Section 508 and related accessibility laws, regulations, and standards.
- Promote accessibility across the organization by providing compliance guidance and support.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent experience (4 years of experience will be used in lieu of degree).
- 5+ years of progressive experience with Section 508 compliance and development standards.
- Experience with compliance testing and evaluation of tools and best practices.
- Expertise in accessibility standards and guidelines (WCAG 2.0, Section 508, ARIA).
- Experience with assistive technologies and testing methodologies on multiple platforms.
- Knowledge and experience in establishing policies, processes, and programs to enable Section 508 Compliance.
- Skills in providing guidance in establishing policies, processes, and programs to enable Section 508 Compliance.
- Expert knowledge of government policies, processes, and procedures as they relate to government Section 508 and accessibility initiatives.
- Knowledge of programs that ensure individuals with disabilities have access to EIT and meet the compliance requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended by the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.
Skills
- Reading and interpreting legislation and federal policy documents.
- Experience with grants.gov.
- Experience as a Disability Program Manager or as an advocate for diversity and inclusion.
- Experience implementing IT Accessibility compliance metrics.
- Experience in diversity, inclusion, and accessibility barrier assessments.
- Experience applying automation methods and techniques.
Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is $85,000.00 - $141,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience, and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
