About the Role
We are seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and inspiring Secondary Music & Choir Teacher to lead our vocal music program and teach foundational music history/theory coursework at Vanguard Classical School. Responsibilities
- Direct high school choral ensembles, conducting regular rehearsals focused on healthy vocal technique, sight-reading, ear training, and expressive performance.
- Select age-appropriate, high-quality choral repertoire spanning historical eras (e.g., sacred and secular classics, folk traditions, and masterworks).
- Teach elective courses in Music History, Classical Music Appreciation, or Music Theory, connecting musical developments to broader historical and literary contexts.
- Plan and execute major school performances, including semester concerts, community showcases, and ceremonial assemblies.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Vocal Performance, Choral Conducting, or a related field.
- Strong piano accompaniment skills (sufficient to lead rehearsals and evaluate vocal parts).
- Deep familiarity with classical vocal repertoire, historical performance practice, and standard choral pedagogy.
- Commitment to the mission, philosophy, and virtues of classical education.
- Ability to clear standard state and federal background checks (Colorado Department of Education / FBI fingerprinting).
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience directing high school choirs or teaching secondary music.
- Experience with classical, Core Knowledge, or liberal arts school models.
- Colorado State Teaching License (Music Endorsement) or willingness to pursue alternative pathway.
Schedule
Our school operates on a unique schedule, with classes held four days a week, allowing for greater flexibility and collaboration among staff.
