Responsibilities
- Facilitates learning and instruction by using multiple presentation methods: demonstrating, Modeling, visual representations, and strategies that aid in supplementing and engaging students in the content.
- Prepares course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines and requirements of state and school.
- Adapts/Scaffolds/Differentiates materials, assignments, and assessments to meet the needs of English language learners.
- Collaborates with all staff members to link ESL and content instruction and student needs to provide support for English language learners.
- Administers assessments to evaluate the progress and results and issues reports to inform all stakeholders of student progress.
- Keeps and maintains grades, attendance, lesson plans, student records, discipline information.
- Maintains a positive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Ensures communication and translation/interpretation for stakeholders (parents/guardians) in their native language when possible.
- Participates in multiple meeting types: department, building, faculty, and professional meetings, educational conferences, professional development, and workshops.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education from a four-year college or university.
- Valid Missouri State Certification in grade level or content area assigned.
- Valid Missouri State Certification in ESL (K-12) or willing to obtain ESL Endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience and/or training in current techniques and skills in teaching English language learners.
- Teaching experience in urban schools.
Pay
- Health and Dental Insurance are provided.
- KCPS Defined Benefit Pension plan – mandatory 9% contribution is required from employee and matched by KCPS; Voluntary retirement savings plans are also available.
Schedule
- Length of work year: 10-month school-year calendar;
- 8hrs/day, five days/week.
