General Purpose

Aid the first press operator in setting up and operating the machine to produce quality printed materials according to company standards.

Essential Job Functions

Maintain and fill ink foundations and set-up dampening system (check pH and conductivity; hold at required level).
Monitor and control register throughout the press run.
Monitor ink levels in fountains and coating in drums, making necessary corrections.
Wash, preserve, and store plates as needed.
Ensure stock availability for the next job.
Communicate status of materials or job information to the following shift.
Stock supplies for the next shift (e.g., press wash, rags, etc.).
Keep the press and press area clean.
Maintain all lubrication points on the press.
Run the press in the absence of the first press operator.
Bring all adjustments back to centerline before starting the next job or form.
Remove and gum used plates.
Adjust the place register system for proper alignment with cylinders.
Perform routine adjustments and maintain quality throughout the press run.
Follow instructions accurately.
Maintain equipment by following work procedures and performing tests and maintenance.
Direct the press assistant to accomplish production goals.
Perform other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Two years’ experience in running, troubleshooting, and quality control on a press of similar size and complexity.
The ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
The ability to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
The ability to meet and/or pass the minimum requirement on a mechanical test or demonstrate mechanical aptitude through prior work experience.
The ability to set up, operate, and perform preventative maintenance on the press.
Basic leadership skills to give simple directions to the press assistant.
The ability to read and comprehend measurements on a ruler.
To pass the ruler test.
To pass the basic reading test.
To pass the color hue test.
The ability to maintain good attendance.
The willingness to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.

Pay and Benefits

The starting rate is $20 per hour, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health, dental, and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and paid sick leave as required by applicable state/local law, 10 days of paid vacation, and 11 days of paid holidays, subject to annual change.
