Seasonal Surg Sterile Processing Specialist

InterHealth Staffing is a for-profit staffing division of Tampa General Hospital (TGH) committed to providing patients with excellent and compassionate care. Positions range from permanent clinical float roles (full-time or part-time) to seasonal 13-week assignments with significantly higher base pay.

About the role

The Surgical Sterile Processing Specialist 2 is responsible for maintaining high standards for decontamination, assembly, inspecting, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment for Surgical Services and Ancillary Departments. This includes working in conjunction with customers to provide timely sterile products, trays, and case carts where applicable. The role ensures consistency and continuous product flow between the OR and Sterile Processing while practicing above-average customer service.

In the absence of a supervisor or manager, this position makes departmental decisions by coordinating work assignments and serving as a resource. Identifies and reports situations requiring intervention to the Supervisor or Manager. Serves as a clinical preceptor for new staff and OR/SPD technician students and acts as a resource person in all Sterile Processing specialty areas. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high standards for decontamination, assembly, inspecting, wrapping, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Work with customers to provide timely sterile products, trays, and case carts.
• Ensure continuous product flow between the OR and Sterile Processing while delivering above-average customer service.
• Coordinate work assignments and serve as a resource in the absence of a supervisor or manager.
• Identify and report situations requiring intervention to the Supervisor or Manager.
• Serve as a clinical preceptor for new staff and OR/SPD technician students.
• Act as a resource person in all Sterile Processing specialty areas.
• Perform job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D required.
• Approved certifications through AST, NCCT, IAHCSMM, or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CSBPD).

Schedule

• Full-time, on-site role.
• Scheduled days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
• Shift: Night (10:00 PM – 6:30 AM).

Pay

Minimum starting salary: $36.50 per hour.

Work Location: TGH Main Campus.
