Seasonal Ranch Worker

About the role

Seasonal Ranch Worker responsible for completing grounds maintenance tasks and functions to ensure the upkeep and care of company grounds, including Harlan Estate Grounds, Forest & woodlands, and all above-ground and underground infrastructure. The purpose of this role is to provide a safe work environment and maintain aesthetically pleasing grounds and forest areas.

Responsibilities

• Complete specific tasks to ensure quality standards are met.
• Maintain equipment in good working condition and store it properly.
• Receive and complete work orders in a timely manner.
• Perform daily maintenance and repairs cost-effectively and according to specifications.
• Follow all safety precautions and company policies as stated in the Employee Handbook.
• Report conflicts to your Supervisor.
• Work on holidays if requested and transfer positions if asked.
• Operate power trimmers, blowers, and other machinery.
• Perform tree cutting, pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood in forests and woodlands.
• Conduct brush chipping, log splitting, and weedeating.
• Operate heavy equipment, including wood chippers.
• Load, unload, move, and carry grounds-related supplies and equipment.
• Assist with harvest maintenance and building hiking trails.
• Install and repair infrastructure, fences, and gates.
• Pick up trash and debris using hand tools, vacuums, sweepers, or power blowers.
• Dig ditches and trenches.
• Assist with vineyard, facilities, and landscape projects as needed.
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all company safety rules.
• Report any injury or accident immediately to a manager, supervisor, or Human Resources.
• Visit the company’s designated occupational health provider for a medical evaluation if injured and requested.
• Wear mandated personal protective equipment (PPE) without exception.
• Do not use machines with inadequate or questionable guards; report such issues to a supervisor.
• Report hazardous conditions and safety concerns immediately to a manager or supervisor.
• Failure to follow safety rules may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

• Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.

• Read, analyze, and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and procedure manuals.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in environments with rapid change and conflicting demands.
• Knowledge of safe and effective use and maintenance of mid-sized equipment (e.g., chainsaws, weed whackers) and heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, excavators).

• Ability to work in rainy conditions if safe to do so.

Workplace Conditions

• Seasonally wet and cold outdoor conditions.
• Seasonally sunny and hot Napa Valley conditions.
• Moderate climate with uneven terrain and hillsides.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday (40 hours per week) at the Oakville property. Breaks include a 10-minute break at the third hour, a 30-minute lunch at the fifth hour, and a second 10-minute break at the seventh hour (subject to change by California law). Overtime and weekend work may be required, especially during harvest season.

Pay

The pay scale for this position is $21.00–$23.00 per hour. Actual compensation will depend on candidate qualifications, skills, experience, education, location, and market alignment.
