Seasonal Private Events Associate
About the role
Maymont is a 100-acre historic estate and park in Richmond, Virginia, featuring the Maymont Mansion, Robins Nature Center, arboretum, formal gardens, and habitats for native Virginia wildlife and farm animals. Since 1975, the Maymont Foundation has operated the site as a nonprofit committed to experiences that delight, educate, and inspire. The seasonal Private Events Associate partners with the Events team to deliver positive and memorable experiences for community events and private rental clients, ensuring an enjoyable environment for all guests and clients.
Essential Functions
- Provide venue support for private rental events including weddings, receptions, corporate outings, baby showers, holiday and birthday parties
- Open and close venues, confirming cleanliness and proper preparation before client arrival
- Serve as day-of Venue Point of Contact for rental clients, delivering exceptional customer service, supporting A/V setup and troubleshooting, and coordinating with the Manager and/or Park Operations to resolve venue issues
- Respond to needs and emergencies as they arise
- Be familiar with Maymont’s venues and rental package rules and policies
- Use effective critical thinking and decision-making to solve on-the-job issues
- Address client concerns in a friendly and courteous manner
- Provide event feedback and identify common problems and solutions
- Support organization-wide events and programs with flexibility to work early mornings, nights, and weekends
- Assist with other duties and tasks as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Customer service experience in events, hospitality, or a similar guest-facing environment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to communicate professionally and courteously during fast-paced, high-demand situations
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate within and across teams
- Flexibility to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, special events, and holidays
- Weekday availability is desired but not required
- Basic computer competency (Microsoft Office, web-based software)
- Flexibility and creativity
- Ability to pass a background check
- Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to and from Maymont
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and talking for extended periods
- Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
