Seasonal Part-Time Maintenance Worker I - REGION 2

About the role

The Part-Time Maintenance Worker I is responsible for completing maintenance activities, landscaping, light construction, natural resource restoration, and facility repairs on a regional basis, as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Operates equipment, including tractors, mowers, chainsaws, string trimmers, and other power equipment as needed.
• Assists in the preventive maintenance of such equipment.
• Assists in all aspects of landscape maintenance, including mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, mulching, hazard tree removal, and trash pick-up and disposal.
• Performs necessary work related to set up and take down for special events and programs.
• Performs routine inspections of all facilities, noting needed repairs; ensuring sites are safe for public use.
• Fulfills natural resource management projects.
• Performs minor plumbing and carpentry tasks.
• Routinely drives County vehicles and assists in the preventative and routine maintenance of such vehicles.
• Collaborates with volunteers and community service personnel involved in maintenance projects.
• Notifies Region Foreman on status of supplies required for daily operations and projects.
• Performs snow removal duties.
• Assists in all light construction activities.
• Assists in all aspects of building maintenance, including cleaning restrooms, offices, and rental facilities.

Qualifications

• Experience in building, construction, or grounds/landscape maintenance and associated equipment.
• At least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to fill out daily work forms.
• Public area safety skills.
• Pleasant and professional communication skills.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English.
• Valid Driver’s License, satisfactory driving record, and ability to maintain one throughout employment.

Physical Demands

• Regularly stands, walks, sits, talks, and hears.
• Frequently uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Sometimes reaches with hands or arms, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.
• Close, distance, color, and depth vision required.
• Must wear appropriate PPE.
• Must be able to lift and use various pieces of hand-held equipment, up to twenty (20) pounds, for prolonged periods.
• Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds (repeatedly).

Work Environment

• Occasional exposure to chemicals, hazardous vegetation, and other hazards.
• Exposure to inclement weather, extreme heat, cold, snow, ice, and rain.
• Varied site assignments.
• Weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required.
• Available for emergencies outside of normal working hours.
• Appropriate dress and protective footwear required.
• Moderate to loud noise levels in the work environment.
