Seasonal Guest Engagement Associate
About the role
Maymont is a 100-acre historic estate and park in Richmond, Virginia, featuring the Maymont Mansion, Robins Nature Center, arboretum, formal gardens, and habitats for native Virginia wildlife and farm animals. Since 1975, the Maymont Foundation has operated this nonprofit site, creating experiences that delight, educate, and inspire guests.
The seasonal Guest Engagement Associate ensures positive and consistent guest experiences at Maymont. This part-time, seasonal position runs from September 1, 2026, through December 31, 2026. The associate serves as a brand ambassador before, during, and after visits and provides on-site assistance at community events including Bier Garden (September 26–27) and Garden Glow (October 14–November 8). This position reports to the Senior Manager of Visitor Experience.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for all guests, delivering excellent customer service, courteous communication, and gracious hospitality
- Engage directly with guests in fast-paced and high-demand situations
- Work scheduled shifts for Bier Garden (September 26–27) and Garden Glow (October 14–November 8), primarily evenings and weekends
- Collaborate with colleagues and volunteers to administer guest experience operations during general admission days, programs, and community events
- Provide guest support over the phone or email by answering general questions, assisting with memberships, or processing tickets
- Maintain current information on Maymont experiences, including exhibits, events, and programs, and communicate offerings effectively to guests
- Assist park safety with enforcing park rules and policies
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Customer service experience in retail, hospitality, or a similar guest-facing environment
- Excellent customer service skills
- Ability to professionally and courteously communicate during fast-paced and high-demand situations
- Enjoyment of direct guest-facing support and willingness to engage directly with the public in a friendly and professional manner
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate within and across teams
- Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, special events, and holidays
- Basic computer competency (Microsoft Office, web-based software)
- Flexibility and creativity
- Ability to pass a background check
- Reliable transportation to and from Maymont
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and talking for extended periods
- Frequent climbing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
