About the role
This position is primarily responsible for working at a facility that loads and unloads rail cars and trucks. It is a general role performing a wide variety of duties based on the daily operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Fully participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
- Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable), including wearing appropriate PPE.
- Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations.
- Perform rail duties such as prepping, unloading, loading, and placement of rail cars.
- Weigh trucks and grade grain.
- Complete documentation accurately and legibly.
- Perform general clean-up, including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other housekeeping tasks.
- Perform preventative maintenance and/or repairs where applicable.
- Maintain grain quality during storage and transfer.
- Depending on the facility, may be responsible for:
- Movement of product to storage.
- Loading trucks using heavy equipment.
- Loading rail cars.
- Operating, running, monitoring, and shutting down dryers.
- Operating a variety of heavy equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: 1 year of experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to complete documentation requirements.
- Ability to follow directions and use logical thought processes to interpret instructions and troubleshoot problems.
- Ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
- Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.
- Focus on exceptional customer service, both internally and externally.
Physical Demands
- Constantly/continuously balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat.
- Frequently climb stairs and ladders to significant heights.
- Constantly/continuously concentrate on tasks without distraction.
- Distinguish grade, color, odor, and damage characteristics in grain samples (at some facilities).
- Distinguish differences in odor intensity or quality using the nose (at some facilities).
- Enter information into a computer.
- Frequently grasp and reach.
- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally to continuously depending on daily needs.
- Meet requirements for and utilize all applicable PPE.
- Meet requirements of PFT and fit testing where applicable.
- Pass all required testing under FRA and DOT for this position (where applicable).
- Perform work in confined spaces.
- Safely walk on barge surfaces and work around deep/swift water (where applicable).
- Constantly/continuously stand and walk.
- Understand and communicate verbally, in person, and over two-way radio (recognize emergency alarms).
- Understand and communicate written instructions.
- Walk safely on top of railcars, open gates, operate vibrators, etc. (where applicable).
- Work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and/or alternate shifts as needed.
- Work in environments with high dust levels around grain and other bulk products (where applicable).
- Work outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Acutely aware of surroundings with the ability to quickly adjust to signals or changes in the environment.
- Use near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for tasks; may need to identify problems with grain.
Environmental Conditions
- Work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
- Frequently required to use personal protective equipment.
- 5%-20% travel may be required at some facilities, including off-site training and/or work at alternate locations.
Pay
The expected base pay range for this role is $16.50 - $25.00 per hour. Actual pay offered may vary depending on work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience.
