About the role
Under the supervision of the Fire Captain/Engineering Boss, performs urban interface thinning and mitigation efforts within Sandy City. Works with other part-time crew members on thinning fuels and creating fuel breaks. May respond with full-time members to wildland fires within Sandy City.
Responsibilities
- Perform urban interface thinning and mitigation efforts
- Create and maintain fuel breaks
- Respond to wildland fires within Sandy City as required
- Operate and maintain fire equipment and fuels
- Use discretion and judgment in emergency situations
- Maintain care, condition, and use of department apparatus and equipment
- Communicate verbally and in writing, including writing reports
- Frequently use fire and medical equipment (hose lines, nozzles, pumps, hydrants, extinguishers, ladders, hand tools, extrication tools, air masks, etc.)
- Analyze and solve problems
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public and City personnel
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18 years or older by time of hire
- Valid Utah Driver’s License
- CPR Certified
- Wildland Red Card preferred
- Previous wildland or fuels experience preferred
- Must successfully complete Sandy City physical requirements: walk 3 miles with a 45lb weighted vest in 45 minutes or less
Pay
$19.00/hour
Schedule
Seasonal (non-benefitted, 6 months or less); up to 25 hours per week, may include weekend work.
