Essential Job Functions

  • Mature, enthusiastic, imaginative, energetic, creative, and possess strong leadership skills.
  • Have the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Work effectively in a TEAM environment.
  • Show strong communication, problem-solving, organization, and mediation skills.
  • Motivate and maintain a positive atmosphere, and if necessary, use positive disciplinary techniques.
  • Work with a working knowledge of company safety protocols and ability to administer minor medical care.
  • Show leadership, alertness, and patience.
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to last minute changes, and have physical stamina to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to lift, pull, push or drag up to 60 pounds of equipment, i.e. ice chest, supply boxes, inventory.
  • Commit to the seasonal schedule.
  • Attend camp counselor orientation and training prior to the first day of camp.
  • Provide high-quality programming and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants ages 6-15.
  • Supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
  • Organize and lead various small and large group activities.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the site, sweeping, mopping, throwing away trash, cleaning up after activities.
  • Absorb and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, always including the whereabouts of your campers.
  • Provide positive and enthusiastic customer service to all Members and guests.
  • Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and be confident in the water.
  • Handle discipline issues with campers with sound judgment and quick decisions to ensure safety of all.
  • Accompany groups on field trips.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Working and supervising children in a recreation or camp environments preferred and cash handling a plus.
  • Cash handling a plus.
  • Current Infant/Child/Adult CPR and First Aid with AED certification or ability to attend training upon employment offer.
  • Camp, youth programs, recreation, or working with children experience preferred, but not required.

Benefits

  • Pars - Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%.
  • The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city.
  • The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system.
  • Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits.
  • Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
